Samsung Galaxy S9 specs rumors: Benchmark scores suggest 2018 flagship is no match to iPhone X

With the robust performance of the iPhone X, expectations are high for Samsung's 2018 flagship. However, patrons who are betting on the Korean tech giant to outdo Apple's latest device may be disappointed. Recent benchmark scores believed to be that of the Samsung Galaxy S9 suggest it is not going to be as powerful as the latest iPhone.

New benchmark test results recently appeared on the Geekbench website for a Samsung smartphone that bears the model number SM-G960F, and reports this is tied to the global version of the next-generation Galaxy S device. The listing reveals the device is running Android 8.0 Oreo and powered by a new octa-core Samsung Exynos chipset, matching previous rumors that it will house an Exynos 9 Series 9810 processor.

The Galaxy S9 earned impressive scores, earning 2680 on the single-core Geekbench 4 test and 7780 on the multi-core test. These figures put the handset among the best Android smartphones tested to date, but it does not come anywhere close to the iPhone X.

Apple's 10th anniversary phone easily beats the S9 with its 9198 sing-core score and 10056 multi-core score. iPhone X's figures are even lower than those of the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. However, these are all just in paper. Benchmark results do not always represent what the public end up seeing at launch, so it is best to take them with a grain of salt.

Regardless, the Samsung Galaxy S9 should still be a formidable device. It is expected to come with 4 GB of RAM, dual camera sensors, and a stunning Super AMOLED Infinity Display. The company has yet to announce the release date, although current predictions put its release date during the first quarter of 2018.

Pricing details for the upcoming smartphone are also under wraps, but it should be comparable to its direct predecessors, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+.
