Samsung Galaxy S8 release date, specs rumors: upcoming handset feature Exynos 8895?

Samsung will reportedly continue with its flagship roll-out, this time the expected follow-up to the Galaxy S7. Speculations suggest that one feature of the upcoming Galaxy S8 series is a next-gen Exynos processor.

According to TechnoBuffalo, the South Korea-based tech giant is currently testing a new Exynos processor. Although Samsung has already used its homegrown Exynos chipset in company flaghsips ion the past, what is interesting to note is the new processor will reportedly feature the new 10nm process architecture. Should this be proven true, the new chipset, dubbed the Exynos 8895, will have step-up levels than the current Exynos 8890 powering Samsung's current-gen flagships like the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy Note 7 iterations. In a test, it is said that the new Exynos 8895 chipset tops the current-gen processor by as much as 30 percent in performance.

Since Samsung has already rolled out the Galaxy Note 7, the Exynos 8895 chipset is expected to arrive just in time for the next flagship's launch, the Galaxy S8. Although Samsung has yet to provide confirmed details on the new flagship lineup, speculations suggest that the Galaxy S8 may debut as early as February next year. Samsung has habitually launched a new Galaxy S-series iteration in the annual Mobile World Congress, and the MWC 2017 is slated on Feb. 27 to March 2 in Barcelona.

Meanwhile, aside from the expected Exynos 8895 chipset, not much is known about the Galaxy S8. Industry followers saying that it is expected for Samsung to come out with souped-up specs and features. Purported specs for the Galaxy S8 include at least 4GB of RAM, 64GB of onboard storage that will most likely be expandable via microSD, and a new camera setup. It is unclear if Samsung will also incorporate an iris scanner and dual-edge display on the new flagship, much like what it did on the Galaxy Note 7.
