Although Samsung is still enjoying its success with the current flagship, the Galaxy S7, fans are already wondering how the tech conglomerate will top it with its follow-up. Speculations suggest that as the next in line, the Galaxy S8 will feature a number of improvements and tweaks, including a VR-ready display capable of 4K resolution.

TechnoBuffalo notes that the South Korea-based tech giant has just unveiled its newest entry in the display panel industry, and this same technology is expected to appear in Samsung flagships. In the Display Week event in California, Samsung revealed a 5.5-inch 4K panel that packs 3840 x 2160 resolution. This means that the panel will display at least 800 pixels per inch, a massive jump from the Quad HD panels for smartphone flagships currently out on the market.

The industry observer noted that the most likely flagship to benefit from this new technology is the upcoming Galaxy S8 lineup. While it is true that Samsung has a couple of upcoming new iterations, it is unlikely that the 4K panel will make it to the Galaxy Note 6 (rumored to be called the Galaxy Note 7) since it is already in development and is supposed to come out later in the year. Rumors have already cropped up online that the next Galaxy Note will feature a Quad HD screen.

According to UploadVR, one interesting feature of the new technology is that the Samsung display is capable of VR support, though representatives at the event told that the display is only a "prototype" and will be developed further to maximize its VR potential. In addition, the industry follower stated that another fledgling display that may have VR potential is Samsung's new "Bio Blue" display, which cuts down the potentially harmful blue light emitted by current AMOLED screens. Should this new technology merge with the VR-ready 4K display panel, then it will mean longer viewing times for VR content without fear of eye strains.
