Samsung Galaxy Note 6 release date rumor: Samsung to skip Note 6 in favor of dual-Edge Note 7?

Reportedly, the next Galaxy Note will have advanced features and improvements that Samsung will be skipping versions, calling the next flagship as the Galaxy Note 7 instead of the much-expected Galaxy Note 6.

According to South Korean publication ETNews, Samsung will release the next Galaxy Note in the latter half of the year. However, instead of a direct follow-up to its current-gen Galaxy Note 5 flagship, the South Korea-based tech conglomerate will be consistent with its flagship versions, and will make the two top flagships of company carry the same variants. Since the other Samsung flagship, the Galaxy S series, is already on its seventh version, the Galaxy Note lineup will have to adjust instead.

Apparently, the version jump is already confirmed, as the industry follower quoted one representative as stating that, "Within Samsung Electronics, a new Galaxy Note is already being called as Galaxy Note 7."

The move is also revealed as a business-related one. Allegedly, two flagships having the same model versions will work to present both lineups as being current.

"When Galaxy Note 6 that has its model number lower than Galaxy S7, which is the newest model, is released, it can give out a feeling that it is an outdated phone," mentioned a high-ranking representative of a telecommunication industry.

Meanwhile, although the Galaxy Note will skip one version, it will still feature improvements and changes over its predecessor. While Samsung has yet to confirm the specs sheet for the flagship, speculations suggest that the new Galaxy Note will incorporate some newer tech like higher on-board storage and RAM, as well as new features like an iris scanner.

Being a flagship iteration, the Galaxy Note 6 or Galaxy Note 7 will use either the latest Exynos or Snapdragon processor, and may even feature both in different versions as what Samsung did with the Galaxy S7 series. Rumors suggest that the flagship will be revealed by August at the earliest.
