Samsung may have felt that the recent Galaxy J2 edition is a bit underwhelming as an entry-level device, as the company has taken the wraps off a new version dubbed the Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro.
According to SamMobile, although the base model, 2016 edition of the Samsung Galaxy J2, has just been released, response to the entry-level device has been lukewarm. Reportedly, although the new iteration is indeed a basic model with entry-level specs, the details and features are on the bottom half of the lineup. The 2016 Galaxy J2's specs seem lacking, particularly its 1.5 GB of RAM and 8 GB of onboard storage.
Meanwhile, although the new Galaxy J2 Pro retains some of the design and the form factor of the basic model, its under the hood specs and features definitely got an upgrade. The new Pro version now has 2GB of RAM and 16 GB of flash storage. In addition, the new Pro variant ships out with Samsung's new Turbo Speed Technology (TST). This means that the device will have a bit of "overclocked" performance even with only 2GB of RAM, since the TST is a management utility that enables the processor to load apps as much as 40 times faster than other non-TST devices.
In terms of design and major feature, the new Galaxy J2 Pro still maintains the somewhat adequate details for its basic model. It still features the same 5.0-inch Super AMOLED display, a Spreadtrum quad-core processor, and 2,66 mAh battery. Its camera set-ups also remain the same. As with the basic model, the Pro version also has an 8MP main shooter at the back, and a 5MP selfie camera at the front. In addition, it also ships out with Android Marshmallow right out of the box.
Although the Pro version is a step-up edition of the Samsung Galaxy J2 (2016), the price tag remains almost the same, as the Pro variant costs $147.
