Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro release date, specs, news: New Pro version is out now

Fans will now get a chance to check out Samsung's first 6-GB RAM iteration, as the Galaxy C9 Pro goes on sale in China.

The step-up variant in the Samsung Galaxy C series is now available in the region, with a price tag of 3199 Yuan, or around $470. Even as part of the mid-range lineup, the Galaxy C9 Pro may instead be listed as an above-average handset as its specs and features are a mix of both mid-range and flagship-level components.

Topping the list for the device is the new 6 GB RAM, which is a first for any Samsung handset lineup. With the Galaxy C9 Pro already having the feature, there are even rumors that the feature will start to crop up in future Samsung Galaxy releases, starting with the next flagship, the Galaxy S8. Meanwhile, the rest of the specs are also top-notch, as the Galaxy C9 Pro is run by a Snapdragon 653 processor. While a standard 64 GB storage is onboard, users can expand it for up to 256 GB via microSD support.

It is also interesting to note that the Galaxy C9 Pro also features the same 16 MP setup for both its main camera and selfie shooter at the front. The two share the same setup, although the front camera lacks a dual-LED flash.

In addition, the new C9 Pro is intended as a true phablet in the Galaxy C-series. The iteration features a 6-inch Super AMOLED display with full HD resolution, as well as a fingerprint scanner with Samsung Pay support. It also runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow right out of the box. With the Samsung Galaxy Beta program for Android Nougat already live and being a recent release, it is expected that the Galaxy C9 Pro is on the devices update list for the new platform soon.

The rest of the specs include a 4,000 mAh battery, USB Type-C connectivity, and HiFi audio.

Although the Galaxy C9 Pro is launched exclusively for China, Samsung has been known to release region-exclusive lineups globally, like what it has done with the Galaxy A series.
