Planned Parenthood deletes tweet calling for Disney princess who's 'had an abortion'

Planned Parenthood has drawn criticism after an affiliate in Pennsylvania posted and later deleted a tweet that called for a Disney princess "who's had an abortion."

"We need a disney princess who's had an abortion We need a disney princess who's pro-choice," read a tweet posted from the Planned Parenthood Keystone account early Monday morning.

The post also called for a princess who is "trans," "an undocumented immigrant" and "a union worker."

The controversial tweet was deleted by Monday afternoon after it received harsh criticism, but it has been preserved in a screenshot.

Conservative author Ben Shapiro posted a sarcastic response to Planned Parenthood's tweet, saying, "We need a Disney princess who stumps for sex-selective abortions on the taxpayer dime then lectures us about what small children they would have killed should watch for entertainment."

Brittany Hughes, of the Media Research Center, noted that the post has garnered a few likes, but there were hundreds of replies indicating that people were not warming up to the abortion provider's suggestion that the "next Disney heroine get knocked up by Prince Charming and have to deal with a crisis pregnancy in between dancing with talking squirrels to some Phil Collins ballads."

Lila Rose, founder and president of Live Action, denounced the tweet saying: "Planned Parenthood is pushing abortion on kids as young as possible, selling lies that abortion is something 'good,' empowering, and even noble. @PPKeystone's call to promote abortions to impressionable little girls who admire Disney princesses is despicable."

David Burge, of the rightwing blog Iowahawk, referenced the notorious late-term Pennsylvania abortion provider Kermit Gosnell, suggesting  that the setting of the next Disney film "could be in Philadelphia so she can have a fairy Gosnell mother." Gosnell is currently serving life in prison without the possibility of parole over the deaths of babies born alive during attempted abortions at his former clinic, as well as other violations.

The tweet from Planned Parenthood Keystone came after it was reported that the abortion provider will still be receiving its approximately $500 million in federal funding.

Last week, several media outlets reported that the new omnibus spending bill did not include a provision to defund Planned Parenthood. According to sources that spoke with PBS News Hour, the bill "continues current policies" on issues related to the abortion debate.

Pro-life advocates have been campaigning for years to have the federal government take away hundreds of millions of dollars in funding to Planned Parenthood.

During the campaign period, Donald Trump had vowed to defund the abortion provider, but has not succeeded so far.
