The Nintendo Switch version of the cooperative heist game "Payday 2" developed by OVERKILL, a Starbreeze Studio and published by Starbreeze Publishing AB, is now available.

Switch user fans have been waiting for a version compatible with their consoles. However, prior to the release of the game on Feb. 27, players who had the chance the play the game earlier that the release date, started a Reddit thread discouraging Switch users to buy the version. These players streamed their games and noticed that certain features that were added to other versions of the game in 2017 were missing.

Polygon contacted Starbreeze regarding the issue. Starbreeze said that the Switch version of the game is one update behind the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and Xbox One versions, which are already behind the personal computer (PC) version. Moreover, Starbreeze said that the reason why the Switch version is outdated compared with the other versions of the game is that they had to port and make the content available before the release of the Switch version. Starbreeze said that there are future content updates available for Switch to make it on par with the PC version.

Meanwhile, Kotaku reported that the upcoming version of the game will not support voice chat. Starbreeze told Kotaku that they are still waiting to participate in Nintendo's VoIP app solution. According to Starbreeze, once they are allowed to participate in Nintendo Online, they will be prioritizing a voice chat update. Nintendo Online currently only supports one game. In response to Kotaku's inquiry as to why it only supports one game, Nintendo said that voice chat is only enabled in games which are designed to use voice chat in conjunction with the Nintendo Switch smart device application.

The Nintendo Switch version of "Payday 2" retails at $49.99.
