'Paragon' update: Game shutting down on April 26

Epic Games formally announces their decision to shut down "Paragon." Epic Games

"Paragon," a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game, will be shutting down its servers on April 26.

In a statement on game developer Epic Games' website on Jan. 25, Paragon Team announced that they will be closing down the game this spring. Moreover, in order to make up for this sad news, Epic Games is also offering full refunds to all "Paragon" players for all the purchases made in the game regardless of the amount.

Paragon Team indicated in their statement that the game will be ceasing its operations primarily because "Paragon" is having a hard time retaining players. According to the Team, the decision to close the game did not happen in a blink of an eye — it was rather a decision derived from months of careful deliberation. The success of Epic Games' second MOBA game, "Fortnite," used up the resources that would have been for the development of "Paragon." With the limited development budget and scarcity of players, the game was deemed unsustainable and its end, inevitable.

"Paragon" was launched in March 2016 as a paid Early Access title on PlayStation 4 and Windows PC. It became a beta game in August of the same year and became free to play. One indicator perhaps of its upcoming shut down would be the lack of announcement for its full release. Simply put, the game failed to exit its beta phase.

"Paragon" will be playable until the servers closed on April 26. Paragon Team warned that since the game is played online, the news of the game shutting down may lessen the number of "Paragon" players, leading to a decrease in the quality of the game. In order to avail of the refunds Epic Games are offering, an Epic account regardless of platform used must be created. For PlayStation 4 players who don't have an Epic account yet, they must create one using this link. On the other hand, PC players or those who have already linked their Epic accounts may use this link to request refunds.
