Red Barrel might have delayed the release of "Outlast 2" until early 2017, but the game developer finally unveiled a demo for the upcoming survival horror game.

The demo, which can be downloaded on PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, and Steam, features the adventures of journalist Blake Langermann as he braved his way in the vast Arizona desert to look for his missing wife who was believed to be taken by a mysterious and scary cult.

While the demo is only 8 MB in size, reports claimed that it can prove that horror elements of the upcoming sequel will be as remarkable as the original "Outlast" game that came out in 2013.

But unlike the first "Outlast" game where investigative journalist Miles Upshur looked into the mysteries that happened in an isolated psychiatric hospital in Lake County, Colorado, Blake will be the main protagonist of "Outlast 2." He will be joined by his wife, Lynne, to investigate the murder of a pregnant woman identified only as Jane Doe.

Those who are interested in downloading the "Outlast 2" demo only has until Nov. 1 to do so.

The game developer first revealed that the sequel for "Outlast" is under development in an interview with Red Barrels co-founder Philippe Morin in Bloody Disgusting in October 2014.

A teaser trailer was released in October 2015, where it was revealed that the game will make its way to stores in fall 2016. However, the game studio announced on the game's official Facebook page on Aug. 1 that the release of "Outlast 2" will be delayed until the first quarter of 2017.

Concerning the upcoming game, the developers said: "Our mission as an indie studio is to deliver to you the best, most terrifying, most fulfilling experiences possible. That's why we're taking just a little bit more time to make sure our vision for Outlast 2 is in no way compromised and is the experience you deserve."

"Outlast 2" will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam upon release.
