Awards season is almost here, and this week, the nominees for the Golden Globe Awards have been announced and it was revealed that a few freshman shows have made the list. Among the new shows that got the nod on Thursday morning is "Outlander," which got three nominations: Best Drama Series, Best Actress (Caitriona Balfe), and Best Supporting Actor (Tobias Menzies).

Series creator and executive producer Ron D. Moore told TVLine that it has been "a surprising morning" after learning about the three nominations, saying that it was really great for the whole cast and crew of the show. Moore also gave some production updates, revealing that filming for season 2 is still ongoing in Scotland.

"They're out there right now shooting in Scotland in the dark and the cold," said Moore, adding that the nominations certainly reinvigorated everyone's spirits while they filmed in winter.

While fans were happy about Balfe and Menzies' nominations, many were disappointed that Sam Heughan did not get a nod for Best Actor as his portrayal of Jamie Fraser was lauded by viewers and TV critics alike.

"I wish Sam had absolutely been recognized, too. We always think of them as the Big 3 on the show," said Moore.

As for the new season, Moore said that season 2 is going to be more lavish and that fans are going to be excited as they follow Claire and Jamie in 18th century Paris.

"I think they're going to be excited to see Versailles," said the show creator. "Season 2 is just much glossier, more posh."

Last month, the series announced that they have cast the boy who will become Lord John, and Moore said that they have shot the scene where he meets Claire and Jamie. TVLine also asked Moore if Brianna—Claire and Jamie's daughter—and Roger have been cast, and the show creator said that they are "very close" to casting the roles.

"We're hoping to be able to announce them very soon," said Moore.

"Outlander" season 2 is expected to premiere in spring 2016.
