OnePlus 5T release date delay news update: Device cancelled? OnePlus debunks November launch

OnePlus 5's successor may not arrive next month after all. The Chinese company recently confirmed that the supposed press invite for OnePlus 5T's Nov. 5 launch is fake.

News of the device's release surfaced earlier this month after a purported invitation to a major OnePlus event in Shanghai for November was leaked online. It was unclear what the event would be about. However, the invite, according to Gadgets 360, showed the outline of a smartphone with 'T' mark, fuelling rumors that it would be the unveiling of the OnePlus 5T.

This came simultaneously with the news of OnePlus 5 running out of stock everywhere, further dismissing doubts about the 5T unveiling.

However, OnePlus denied the claims on Thursday, telling GSMArena that the invite circulating  online "is not genuine."

It is still unclear whether the smartphone will see the light of day, as there are speculations that the company will be skipping 5T to focus on developing the OnePlus 6. But, it is worth noting that the company did not debunk 5T's very existence. Thus, the arrival of the revamped model might still happen, only at a later date.

If it does, patrons should not expect a new chipset from the device. As reported previously, Qualcomm is not planning to update its Snapdragon 835 this year, so OnePlus will most likely use the same chipset found on the existing OnePlus 5. Instead, the major change will supposedly be in the design.

A leaked render of OnePlus 5T revealed a larger, nearly bezel-less smartphone with a larger screen that is tipped to go against other flagships like the iPhone X, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, and Google Pixel 2. The 5T will supposedly be increasing the screen size to 6-inches with a 2160 x 1080 resolution, making it an 18:9 smartphone.

Rumors suggested it would come in two variants: one with 6 gigabytes (GB) of random access memory (RAM) and 64 GB of internal storage, and another with an 8 GB RAM and 128 GB of built-in storage. Other expected features include 20 and 16-megapixel (MP) dual rear cameras, 16 MP front snapper, and Android 8.0 Oreo.
