It is rumored that OnePlus will launch a step-up variant for its current-gen flagship soon. The startup tech maker has teased that it may be named as OnePlus 3T.

Reportedly, a post on China-based social media site Weibo has let it leak that the step-up version will indeed be named as the OnePlus 3T. Meanwhile, OnePlus itself has also teased that the new variant will feature the new Snapdragon 821 chipset, a major improvement over the SD 820 processor on the current-gen OnePlus 3.

There are other major upgrades that the OnePlus 3T will reportedly bring. Aside from the new chipset, the new flagship will also get a major bump in its battery, as supposed specs include a 3,300-mAh one, a significant increase over the 3,000-mAh battery on the current iteration. In addition, the OnePlus 3T will upgrade its camera setup to a Sony IMX398 sensor, though it will keep the same 16-MP assembly and features such as OIS and LED flash.

Other purported specs include Android 7.0 Nougat right out of the box, as well as a 128-GB storage variant in addition to the 64-GB storage option.

Meanwhile, even with the significant upgrades, the OnePlus 3T is expected to retain some features from its predecessor. According to speculations, the design and form factor for the OnePlus 3T will remain the same. This means that aside from the all-metal construction, the upcoming version will also have the same 5.5-inch screen with full HD resolution, as well as the 6-GB RAM capacity of the original OnePlus 3.

With the expected upgrades, it is also said that the OnePlus 3T will have an increase in its price tag. Supposedly, it will add at least $80 to the current price of the OnePlus 3. This is interesting to note, as OnePlus is known to be a "flagship killer," releasing iterations with the same flagship specs as big-name players but with significant, budget-friendly prices.
