With some of the current flagships expanding their lineup, it is said that the next in line to get a step-up version is the OnePlus 3.
In an exclusive by GizmoChina, it is mentioned that the flagship has been under a strain lately due to late deliveries for orders. However, instead of it being a disadvantage, it is said that the current stock issue for the OnePlus 3 actually works in fans' favor. OnePlus has reportedly slowed down production, and the company will eventually stop assembly for the OnePlus 3. Supposedly, the production run will shift its focus to a step-up version of the current flagship. The upcoming iteration will come out either as the OnePlus 3 Plus, or OnePlus 3s.
Should this prove true, this will be the first time that OnePlus will expand its current-gen lineup with another iteration. The original OnePlus 1 and the follow-up OnePlus 2 were launched as single-flagship releases. However, expanding the OnePlus 3 lineup is highly possible, given that other China-based competitors like Huawei and Xiaomi are expanding their own flagships.
Meanwhile, analysts also agree that there is a high possibility of OnePlus coming out with a OnePlus 3 lineup addition. According to Phone Arena, noted China-based industry analyst Pan Jiutang has already predicted that a OnePlus 3 Plus version is in the works.
As an expansion lineup, the OnePlus 3 Plus is expected to come out as a step-up version of the base model. Rumored specs include the step-up Snapdragon 821 processor and at least 4 GB of RAM. In addition, as a Plus variant, the new device is said to come out with a 6.0-inch display. The screen itself is rumored to be upgraded to an LCD panel from the current AMOLED tech on the OnePlus 3. With an increase in display size, the battery is also expected to jump to at least 3,900 mAh capacity.
