Oil paintings to inspire deeper walk with Christ

A contemporary artist is hoping a new resource based on her paintings of Christ will help people new and old to the faith to deepen their understanding of God.

‘The Journey’ consists of a set of 15 stunning Giclée prints by Penny Warden portraying the final journey of Christ to His death and resurrection, as well as a user-friendly teaching manual written by her husband, the Rev Dr Richard Warden, a former school and army chaplain and religious studies teacher.

The husband and wife team hope their new resource will be taken up by schools, churches and individuals alike, and help people already committed to Christ, as well as those who are new to the faith or seeking to develop their understanding of God through Christ.

The prints are taken from Penny Warden’s ‘The Stations of the Cross’ series of six-feet high oil paintings on permanent display in Blackburn Cathedral.

The Journey has received rave reviews from church leaders, including Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who said it had “such considerable healing potential”.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, called the resource an “outstanding and very moving work” while the Bishop of Durham, the Rt Rev Tom Wright, said The Journey was “remarkable”.

“The Journey will help to explain the meaning of Christ to a puzzled and agnostic generation, and engage with people wherever they may be within the complexities of life in the 21st century,” he said.

The Journey will be launched at the National Christian Resources Exhibition at Sandown Park in May.
