The release of "No Man's Sky" has been delayed a number of times already. Reportedly, one of the things that have kept the title from rolling out is a dispute over its name.
According to a tweet from developer Hello Games' Sean Murray, the secret, three-year long legal battle is finally over, and fans can now look forward to the eventual release of "No Man's Sky" in August.
Murray posted, "We finally settled with Sky (they own the word 'Sky')," alluding to the Europe-based broadcasting giant Sky. Murray added, "We can call our game No Man's Sky. 3 years of secret stupid legal nonsense over."
While this may seem trivial, Murray admitted that they took the legal action fairly seriously.
"This is the same folks who made Microsoft change Skydrive to Onedrive... so it was pretty serious," Murray continued in a follow-up post. The Hello Games executive is referring to the case where Sky took Microsoft to court for using the word "Sky" in its file-sharing platform. Just last year, the Europe-based broadcasting conglomerate again used legal action, this time against Skype, since the latter's logo can be taken as a cloud at first glance, "and thus may readily be associated with the word 'sky.'" A European court ruled in favor of the former.
Meanwhile, since the "secret legal nonsense" is finally over, it seems that it's all systems go for the game's release. "No Man's Sky" was originally scheduled to be released late last year, but Hello Games postponed the roll-out to June this year. The Aug. 9 release is already the third release period.
Hello Games publicly stated that it is tweaking the game further and introducing improvements, hence the delay. The statement has started speculations that the delay was caused by Hello Games going back to the drawing board to introduce 4K and/or VR content in "No Man's Sky."
