Nintendo Switch playtime error fix coming in firmware update

Nintendo has had a huge success with the Switch console and just last weekend, they celebrated their first year with the Switch. Unfortunately, a bug appeared at the same time that seemingly resets the player's playtime. Players thought that it was part of the celebration, ironically, but that is not the case and a fix is already on its way.

"Some Nintendo Switch owners' play activity info is displaying incorrectly, but play activity is still being recorded accurately in the background," said Nintendo in a tweet, assuring its gamers that "A future system update will resolve this issue [and] ensure play time data is correctly displayed. We apologize for the inconvenience."

According to GameSpot, NF Magazine also reported on Twitter the reassurance that Nintendo Tweeted. The playtimes, according to the tweet, would only be gone for ten days, which is actually the same time as the number of days before anyone sees the played time on any game. They appear right on the 11th day of playing any game.

Apparently, the update first happened before the Switch's celebration of its first year. It seemed too coincidental that the apparent bug started popping up right during their first year. Gamers thought that the record of time played was only done yearly and resets the next year. While this necessarily does not affect the gameplay of any game, some people enjoy seeing how much time they have placed in the game.

This is not much of a big issue for those who may be worrying about the Nintendo Switch and its sales and whatnot. It is a minor bug on a minor feature and fortunately, Nintendo will be addressing it right away.

Unfortunately, however, they did not give at least an estimated day for when the fix will be rolled out. For now, it may suffice to know that the play times are not gone for good.
