Nintendo Switch news, update, rumors: Paid online subscription to go live in Fall 2018

Now that the time of the Wii is pretty much over, the Nintendo Switch has proven to be a great replacement as many players are drawn into trying out the latest hybrid console. The high sales enjoyed by the Switch is a proof that Nintendo is successful in delivering another hit. Thus, it should be expected that the console will have its own paid subscription online service coming soon, something that the Japanese gaming company already confirmed. However, the latest reports hint that the Nintendo Switch Online is postponed to a Fall 2018 release.

To note, other leading home consoles today such as Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have their own online-based paid subscriptions, which are the Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, respectively. With the Nintendo Switch Online expected to go live in the coming months, the Italian webpage for Nintendo reveals that the users will have to wait until Fall 2018 to experience this service.

There could be a lot of reasons behind the Fall 2018 launch date for Nintendo Switch Online. According to WCCFTech, this might just be one of the usual placeholder dates automatically displayed in websites. There is also a possibility that the person managing Italian Nintendo website may have mistyped the date, as the online subscription going live at a much later date in autumn 2018 sounds a bit strange.

Nintendo already confirmed its plans for Nintendo Switch Online, which will allow the hybrid console users to access exclusive Switch features and add-ons, as well as reporting certain issues by using the internet. The company set the launch date in Fall 2017, following the service's trial run with "Splatoon 2." Unfortunately, there is still no word from Nintendo regarding the status of the online paid subscription.

The Nintendo Switch Online is said to have better offer compared to its potential rivals that have expensive rates. The online paid subscription for the hybrid console will only cost $3.99 per month, which is equivalent to £3.10 and AUS $5.40. Players will get bigger discount if they avail the yearly subscription, costing around $19.99 or equivalent to £15.50 and AUS $27.
