With Nintendo continuing to be mum about its upcoming gaming system, the NX, fans continue to speculate on what sets the console apart from current-gen ones. According to rumors, the Nintendo NX may come out later this year with new features such as gesture controls in a mobile/console hybrid.

Digital Spy came across patent documents first posted on forum site NeoGAF. Reportedly, the patent Nintendo filed is for a single-screen mobile device with touch display. The device itself has an infrared camera, which can supposedly track movements and controls by mapping out shapes and distances. The patent document then laid out examples of how the tech can be featured in Nintendo games, particularly with titles that require gesture-specific controls like pitching and catching in baseball simulation titles.

While the patent is for a portable device, the industry observer stated that it can still be a plausible Nintendo NX component. Previous rumors placed the upcoming gaming system to be a hybrid one, a combination of console and mobile gaming.

Meanwhile, when Nintendo hinted at the NX development late last year, the gaming industry giant promised details to come out by 2016. However, information about the company's next gaming system remains scarce.

This can change by next month, as Forbes surmised that Nintendo will start their big reveal with the next Nintendo Direct event. According to the industry follower, the company may reveal the NX, as well as the launching titles for the new console, between April and May. This means that side from the NX, fans may get details on the rumored new "The Legend of Zelda" game for both the Wii U and the NX.

The NX is speculated to be released later this year, possibly in November.
