Nicki Minaj tells fans to pray for wisdom, not riches

Christianity has been a big influence in the life of Nicki Minaj, something that may not be obvious from the sexualised rap performances she's known for.

But the multi-million dollar artist shared an insightful tweet with her fans recently, suggesting she knows first hand that money isn't everything.

"Ppl pray for riches.  Remember to pray for wisdom," she tweeted.

Minaj, who is the most charted female rapper in the Billboard Hot 100's history, has previously spoken about the role the church played in turning around her abusive father's life.

She told The Guardian previously that he went through drug rehabilitation and started going to church with her mom.

"And he got saved and started changing his life," she shared, adding that her heroes in life were God and her mother.

And last year, Minaj told Elle magazine about her daily prayers to become a better woman.

"I was praying every day, 'You know what, Lord? I want to be a mom one day, and I want to start becoming the woman who I want to parent my child,'" she told the publication.

"I wanted all of the feelings of entitlement to leave me, because some people have this life for a year or five or 10 - and a lot of them lose it.  I didn't want to become a person who wasn't enjoying the moment."

Her mother, Carol, told The Christian Post earlier this year that her daughter "constantly" called her and the family's pastor asking them to pray for her different concerns when she was breaking out on the music scene.

"I believe by her acknowledging the power of prayer, and her strong desire to tithe together with a praying mother, contributed to her success," she said.
