"Harry Potter: Wizards Unite" will be Niantic's next game.

Niantic, the developer behind the global augmented reality (AR) sensation "Pokemon Go" has announced its next title that could take the world by storm. The upcoming game will take players into the magical and exciting wizarding world in "Harry Potter: Wizards Unite."

The company announced that it is working with Warner Bros. to develop the game, which like "Pokemon Go," would be a location-based AR game. The game will send players around the real world in quests to learn new spells and encounter various magical creatures. The game will also allow players to encounter some of the popular characters from the "Harry Potter" books and movies.

"With Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, players that have been dreaming of becoming real life Wizards will finally get the chance to experience J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World," said Niantic Chief Executive Officer John Hanke. "Players will learn spells, explore their real world neighborhoods and cities to discover & fight legendary beasts and team up with others to take down powerful enemies."

The upcoming game will have the luxury of utilizing the rapidly advancing AR technology as well as more modern features in today's smartphones. "'Harry Potter: Wizards Unite' will leverage the full stack of the Niantic Platform while also providing an opportunity to pioneer all new technology and gameplay mechanics," added Hanke.

The "Harry Potter" franchise seems ideal for a new Niantic game, as the franchise offers a very wide variety of content that the game developer can build the game around.

Unfortunately, there are still very little details available about the upcoming game. It has not been confirmed whether the game will be available on both Android and Apple devices. The release date has also not been confirmed, but it is expected that more details about the game would become available by next year.

Niantic also assured "Pokemon Go" players that the new "Harry Potter" game will not distract the developer from supporting the popular Pokemon game.
