Nexus 6 release date, specs: Google to launch $100 device to undercut Moto G

Anyone angling for a budget smartphone can find a pretty good deal in the Moto G but that may be just the reason why Google is reportedly looking to bring out a cheaper Nexus.

The rumor is that the follow-up to the Google Nexus 5 is going to be a smartphone for under $100 (£60).

That report com3es from BGR.com, citing a report on the Chinese MTKSJ.com site, and states that Google is working with MediaTek on the device.

The price will make it cheaper than the 8GB Moto G device and could make it a really attractive alternative if Google packs it with the latest versions of Android operating systems.

However, it is not likely that this will be the next Google Nexus 6 flagship phone, which is being mentioned in connection with both LG and HTC.

LG built the Nexus 5 along similar lines to its LG G2 smartphone but it's not been confirmed yet whether the two companies are working together on the Nexus 6.

If Google does stick with LG, we can expect it to be a pretty similar piece of kit to the LG G3, which was recently reported to come with a 5.5-inch display with a 2560x1440 pixel resolution.

And if Google sticks to its previous release schedule for the Nexus, we can expect the Nexus 6 to be retailing some time around the end of October or early November.
