After the permanent shelving of the Google Nexus 7, all eyes are now on murmurs that a new Google Nexus 5 (2015). The supposed version will succeed the previous Nexus 5 which came out in 2013 and will reportedly be compatible with Google's highly touted Project Fi Wireless Service.
Project Fi is Google's experimental wireless service which was intended to address the rising cost of Internet access. The service switches between cellular and WiFi networks and was reportedly developed to convince carriers to offer a usage-based plan where subscribers would only have to pay for cellular data used.
At the moment, the Nexus 6 is the only one compatible with Google's Fi service and a new Google Nexus 5 2015 could be the next one in line.
With regards to the manufacturing of the Google Nexus 5 2015, word has it that the company would be partnering with Huawei to produce it. It is no secret that Huawei is being mentioned as the next manufacturer for the Nexus product line although lurking in the background is LG.
Though there is no word on who has got the inside track, there is a chance the both could be working with Google thus signaling that there could be two Nexus 5 versions.
A high-end and more expensive version could be made by LG while the low-end version could make use of Huawei technology.
Either way, this opens new opportunities for Google to charge premium services while offering a cheaper device which brings to mind the initial coming of the Nexus 5 in 2013 priced at just $350.
For now all these are a mix of rumors and speculations but if true, we should see what the real deal is and what Google truly has planned.
