In accordance with the company's spring season update, Microsoft has finally unveiled a 1440p display support for the Xbox One X and Xbox One S consoles. This update allows games and other media to be displayed without being downscaled to a "mere" 1080p.
Supersampling, which utilizes the Xbox One X's additional horsepower to provide high-level graphical quality to games when seen on Full HD (1080p), was regarded as the consoles' more useful and impressive features. Back in February, Kevin Gammill, program manager for Microsoft's Xbox Platform Partner Group, teased the arrival of changes to the supersampling feature by posting a tweet about the 1440p upgrade.
Apart from the display-related upgrade, there is an exciting new addition called the Share Controller. This may be accessed through the website of Microsoft's live-streaming service, Mixer. It provides co-streaming functions, which will allow up to four users or streamers to band together and participate in multiplayer streaming. Using the Share Controller, streamers can hand off game control to other players that are logged on to the Mixer website.
By doing so, Mixer viewers will be enabled to control any streamer's games by using the on-screen virtual gamepad, or simply by using their Xbox controller on their desktop PC. By sharing a streamed game, both viewer and streamer can control it simultaneously. This may prove to be one of the kinks that Xbox would have to work on in the future, as two individuals might end up jockeying for control.
However, several problems have already been addressed. Streams will now pause and resume automatically and will let the streamers in on the action through an indicator, whereas before, broadcasts have been known to stop whenever a streamer switches games. They can also choose where they want to start their streams from, which will either be the console or a game's splash screen.
The upgrades also include a more "cutting-edge" look to the Microsoft Edge browser, as well as an audio option to balance game audio against background music. The company has also made tournaments directly available in the Game Hubs tab, so players no longer have to be part of a particular club to start or join a tournament.
According to Xbox Wire, those who are in the XBox Alpha Insider Ring were the first to get a look at the spring update as it was released on Mar. 1.
