New beginnings for Marc James

Marc James has a name that many already know: frontman, singer and songwriter with rock trio Verra Cruz; worship leader and songwriter from the UK Vineyard group of churches; gutsy session guitarist.

Now, though, Marc’s name is about to be linked to a new expression of his faith - the creator of a captivating new worship album out now on Survivor Records – ‘Surrender’.

Marc’s first full length solo album is a remarkable offering. Like a friend returning from a decade-long adventure that has taken him to the most remote of locations, Marc has enough stories to tell to outlast the biggest campfire – and enough sparkle in his eyes to capture the imagination of all who hear them.

‘Surrender’ has it all. From the tidal force of the opening tracks – ‘I Worship You Now’ and ‘Great Is Your Faithfulness’ – to the intimate fragility of ‘Jesus Your Love Is All I Need’ and the brooding power of ‘He Reigns’, not forgetting the sheer beauty and power of the title track – a song that has been boosting faith and strengthening the church for years.

Marc’s power is found in many elements – and this solo album offers so many opportunities for his gifts to shine. Lyrics are rooted in a rock solid knowledge of God that is both scriptural and personal. Melodies are full of life and strength, taking to the skies like kites, driven by invisible forces. The arrangements – and particularly Marc’s work on the guitar – are pitched just right: full of force and grunt where needed, but adding in warmth and space wherever called for.

In all, this is a debut album that sounds like it comes in the middle of a glorious recording career. Full of wisdom and life, with room to grow even more, Marc has found a home that is powerfully inviting.
