New album from Lou Fellingham

After two high achieving albums already released to plenty of acclaim, Lou Fellingham is back with an album that shows her at the very height of her talent and craft.

‘Step Into The Light’ is a soul-stirring, faith-building and hope-changing album – a five star adventure into a brighter, clearer view of God.

With its fresh, creative and contemporary feel, ‘Step Into The Light’ includes beautiful recordings and superb production and musicianship.

Produced by legendary keyboardist Mark Edwards, the album features Amy Winehouse’s drummer Troy Miller and Delirious? guitarist Stu G as well as backing vocals from Lawrence Johnson (Leona Lewis) and Ladaonna (Corinne Bailey Rae). All this coupled with Lou’s exceptional voice makes for an inspired result.

Standout tracks include the opener, ‘There Is More’ – as clear a demonstration of Lou’s confidence in her skills as any you’ve heard before. A twisting, insisting, driving call to worship that reaches out beyond the walls of the church and sets the tone for all that is to come.

‘See The Lamb Of God’ is a brave reflection on the passion of Christ that joins in every step to Calvary, building to a transformative crescendo. It’s hard to understand how much experience can be crammed into 5 minutes 44 seconds. But it works. Beautifully.

‘My God Cares’ starts with the most vulnerable of piano riffs, while ‘Holy, Holy, Holy’ is as simple – and as powerful – as they come. The title track channels all the power and groove of Phatfish while ‘Let It Shine’ is a deliberately unusual up-tempo ending for a worship album.

Lou reminds us that worship must propel us out just as much as it brings us to our knees, and the whole album resonates powerfully with both churched and unchurched listeners alike.

Lou has been the lead singer of popular band Phatfish for the last 17 years. Together they have recorded nine albums and toured extensively throughout the UK, Canada and America.

She has also served as part of the worship team at the Stoneleigh Bible weeks; her distinctive voice being a major feature on those best selling worship albums. Her own back catalogue includes the 2006 debut, ‘Treasure’ and the 2008 release ‘Promised Land’, awarded CBC Worship Album of the year for 2008.

All of the above – the years spent leading worship and the years spent in studios and honing her songwriting – can be heard in evidence on ‘Step Into The Light’. Lou’s desire to express truth, feed the church and bring revelation of God through her singing and songwriting is brilliantly served by these eleven songs.
