Netflix confirmed it has renewed "Black Mirror" for a fifth season on March 5.

The official "Black Mirror" Twitter account confirmed the series' season 5 in a Tweet featuring a short clip captioned, "The future will be brighter than ever." At the end of the video, the words "Be Right Back" flashes to the screen, announcing the renewal of the series.

As noted by Variety, the science-fiction (sci-fi) series is notorious for exploring the negative influences of new technology to the modern world. The show's first and second season aired on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom. Netflix picked the series for its third, fourth and now, the fifth season. Netflix has yet to announce the premiere date as well as the episode count for the upcoming season.

According to Express, if Netflix will following the release dates of the show's previous seasons, the season 5 of "Black Mirror" is expected to launch sometime at the end of 2018. Afterall, the show's third season premiered on October 21, 2016, while the fourth on December 29, 2017. Moreover, if Netflix will follow the number of episodes of the show's previous seasons, the upcoming season will have six episodes, each with an hour running time.

Express also discussed a possible spinoff from the season 4 pilot episode titled "USS Callister." The episode's director Toby Haynes said that there is always a possibility that the episode will be revisited in the future seasons of the show. Moreover, he hinted that there is a possibility that crooked Captain Daly (Jesse Plemons) will survive the end of the said episode and come back. Netflix and Plemons have yet to confirm these statements.

"Black Mirror" was created and written by Charlie Brooker. It is executive produced by Brooker and Annabel Jones. The show's season 4 cast includes the following — Plemons, Cristin Milioti, Jimmi Simpson, Michaela Coel, Andrea Riseborough, Andrew Gower, Kiran Sonia Sawar, Georgina Campbell, Joe Cole, George Blagden, Maxine Peake, Jake Davies, Clint Dyer, Douglas Hodge, Letitia Wright and Babs Olusanmokun.
