National Geographic's Emmy-nominated series, "The Story of God" has proven so successful that the show has just been renewed for a third season.

The third season will once again follow Morgan Freeman as he travels all across the globe and explores the power of different religions and how it impacts the lives of followers, according to Deadline. Freeman will go to some of the world's holiest sites and converse with religious leaders, historians, archaeologists and even scientists.

Each episode will highlight a different topic about religion and help answer some of the questions that people have about the divine.

In the past two seasons, Morgan has already gone to Jerusalem's Wailing Wall, India's Bodhi Tree, the Mayan temples in Guatemala, and the pyramids of Egypt. He even visited Joel Osteen's Houston megachurch and went to New Mexico to observe ancient Navajo rituals.

Personally, Freeman grew up as a Christian. But his thoughts about religion significantly changed as he grew up. "Well, I'm simply one of those who believes that God is... what is the world I want to use... he's aware of my everything," he earlier told the Daily Beast. "In 'The Story of God' we had a wonderful interview with a monsignor and he made it very clear to me that God is us. So you live it, you got it. Just look around you: we see the manifestations everywhere, even in the world of technology. There's this sense of being in the presence of something far greater."

His family used to take him to church services, but the actor confessed that nothing ever stuck with him. Personally, his gauge for right and wrong would always be the reprimand he received from his grandmother. "I went to churches and synagogues, only it never caught hold. At 13, I stopped. But grandma's big slap on my head always pointed out when I'd done wrong," he told Page Six.
