'Moana': New Disney animation movie set for November 2016 release

The first official concept art from Disney's "Moana."

"Moana," a new animation from Disney which was initially intended for 2018, is now getting an earlier November 2016 release. Aside from the announcement of its early premiere, Disney animation also released a new synopsis. MTV quotes the synopsis as:

"In the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania, Moana, a born navigator, sets sail in search of a fabled island. During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore"

John Musker and Ron Clements, the men behind famous Disney animations like "The Little Mermaid," "Aladdin," and "The Princess and the Frog," will collaborate again in directing "Moana." The directors charmed everyone with Ariel and have taken Disney fans up to the skies with Aladdin. What's next? This time, they will introduce 14-year-old Moana to the world, the youngest heroine Musker and Clements have created.

The directors also chose a remote spot on the map they think is the perfect setting for the CG-animated film.

At first glance, the comedy-adventure animation can be compared to a beautiful artwork set in the vast waters and breathtaking sceneries of the South Pacific. Many might be wondering, of all the places in the world, why the South Pacific? Muskers shared that it has to do with his childhood. He said, as a kid, reading novels of Melville and Conrad, the South Seas and the exotic places their stories were set in intrigued him. Now he ventured out reading more about that area which led him to the tales and myths about Maui, one of the greatest cultural heroes of the South Pacific.

The cinematic animated film is set 2,000 years ago when the young Polynesian teenager goes on a dangerous adventure, and it revolves around the cultures and traditions of the South Seas. "Moana" will be shown in theaters in late 2016.
