Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date: Hugely improved Surface Pro to debut in October?

While the Surface Pro 4 currently enjoys rave reviews, there are some fans who still find the hybrid tablet lacking and are already asking when Microsoft will follow it up with the Surface Pro 5. According to speculations, fans can expect the new iteration to launch before the holidays, even as early as October.

In addition, the Surface Pro 5 is said to have huge improvements in terms of features and specs over that of its predecessor.

According to Yibada, should Microsoft continue to follow its release periods for its flagship products, fans can expect the Surface Pro 5 to launch in the latter part of the year, similar to how the current-gen Surface Pro 4 was launched in October last year. The industry follower also mentioned that since the current Microsoft Surface Pro slate has already established at least four months of being in the market, the tech giant already received feedback on the tablet hybrid.

Speculations have mentioned that one thing that Microsoft will be improving in the next Surface Pro is its battery performance, prolonging power usage with a higher-rated battery. Inquisitr said this is a feature that Microsoft should improve on, as the Surface Pro lineup is known to be a business-centric version, thus heavy usage is expected. The industry follower said that while the Surface Pro 4 has been updated to better optimize its power management, some fans have said that the battery capacity still feels inadequate for their work needs.

Meanwhile, The Bitbag says that since it is already becoming the norm, the Surface Pro 5 is being expected to feature a fingerprint scanner, if not a camera with facial recognition. Currently, a fingerprint scanner is only available on the Type Cover keyboard, not on the tablet itself. Having a fingerprint scanner adds a layer of security for those who carry only the Surface Pro, without any accessory. Meanwhile, facial recognition-capable camera will fully support the new Windows Hello feature of Windows 10.

However, all these specs and features remain hearsay, as Microsoft remains silent about its next steps for the Surface Pro lineup.
