Microsoft Surface Phone release date rumor: New Windows 10 flagship out in October?

As Android- and iOS-run flagships have dominated the current flagship releases in the smartphone market, will fans see a Windows 10 iteration?

It seems likely as speculations suggest that Microsoft is readying a Surface Phone for an October release, alongside a major Windows 10 update dubbed "Redstone."

According to Inquisitr, the hype surrounding the Microsoft Surface Phone intensified when it was confirmed that the Surface team of the Redmond-based tech giant is hard at work developing a new product. However, it is still unclear if it really is a smartphone that they are currently working on.

However, a hint already surfaced late last year, as Express UK reported that allegedly, Microsoft has already green-lit an Intel-powered Surface Phone last December. In addition, the industry follower said that the Surface Phone is believed to be a small-scale version of the Surface Pro 4. This leads to speculations that rather than a mobile version of Windows 10, the rumored Surface Phone will run a full version of the current Microsoft platform, hence it being an Intel-powered device. This will be similar to Apple's iOS being both in the iPhone lineups and the iPad Pro.

According to YouthHealthMag, the Surface Phone running a full Windows 10 version will be Microsoft's effort to revive interest in its mobile smartphones. Although Microsoft has already released a Windows 10 Mobile flagship in the Lumia 950 and 950 XL iterations, the flagships failed to establish a foothold in the market. According to reports, Windows-run phones only hold 1.7 percent of the worldwide mobile market share.

Aside from running a full version of Windows 10, it is also said that since this will be a flagship project, the Surface Phone will have top-tier features. Rumored specs of the upcoming flagship include USB Type-C connectivity, giving the Surface Phone a sleek and slimmer design profile, at least 6 GB of RAM and liquid cooling.
