Microsoft Surface Phone release date, specs rumors: 3D concept image reveals possible foldable display

Microsoft has not yet made the official confirmation that the long-fabled Surface Phone is in the works. With the huge success of the Redmond-based tech firm's Surface lineup, tech enthusiasts are hoping that it would also conquer the smartphone race soon. It's a good thing that digital artists were able to come up with a visualized render of the much-awaited device. Recently, a 3D concept image has re-captured everyone's attention back to the Surface Phone.

With months of no real details from Microsoft, some people are starting to think that the Surface Phone is a no-go. However, a 3D art designer, David Breyer, used his talent to create a concept render of the device, taking in every bit of information regarding the possible design and features of the Surface Phone. The concept art is consistent with the recent rumors surrounding the device, depicting the Surface Phone with a two-fold display.

The 3D concept images show the Surface Phone composed of two equal-sized display panels that can be folded together. Users can choose to unfold the device to use it as a single-screened handset with a more immersive visual treat. Breyer's visualized renders are presented in the same way as actual patent filing, including the Surface Phone's many form factors. The images also considered the rumor that a Surface Pen stylus will be supported by the handset.

To note, the 3D concept art for the Surface Phone resembles a recent patent leak unearthed by MSPoweruser. The patent reveals a small device with twin screen displays combined by a hinge at the seam line. This further support the speculations that Microsoft is trying to bring back the foldable Courier concept that did not see the light of day.

Meanwhile, a deciphered code within the Microsoft Whiteboard app is said to confirm that a Surface Phone with the foldable display will arrive soon. A known tech tipster from Twitter known as WalkingCat said that the Whiteboard app code is pointing to a certain "Journal" app that can be viewed in left and right pages. Furthermore, this app is suspected to be designed specifically for the Surface Phone.
