Methodists Transforming Lives in Colombia

In communities where drugs and violence are widespread, the Methodist Church in Colombia has been changing lives through courageous love and service. In the face of severe poverty, the church is alongside the people in their quest for justice.

Now a new DVD, Building a Church in Colombia, tells the story of how this church began and of all it does to work for peace and justice for the country's three million displaced people.

Rev Tom Quenet, World Church Secretary for the Americas and the Caribbean for the Methodist Church, said: "After a troubled birth, the Methodist Church in Colombia has emerged to bring hope into the tough world of drugs and violence for which Colombia is known.

"It approaches the difficult challenges with hope, determination and vision. This DVD tells its story in a way that is refreshing and challenges the way we engage in mission at home and overseas."

Jointly produced by the British Methodist Church and the United Church of Canada, the DVD has English narration and subtitles when Spanish is being spoken.

It includes testimony of the work of NMAs (Nationals in Mission Appointments) supported by the Methodist Church Fund for World Mission.

The DVD is available free of change and is ideal for use in church services and house groups or as a resource for Bible studies and devotional time.

Rev Quenet concluded: "For the past six years the British Methodist Church in partnership with the United Church of Canada, the United Methodist Church (USA) and other Methodist Churches in Latin America have been companions to a body that is establishing a new model for the Gospel taking root in Latin America."
