'Mario Kart 8 Deluxe' unlockables: How to unlock Golden Mario

"Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" comes with most characters readily available, all except one. Gold Mario — and his Gold Kart — will need to be unlocked by players so they can use this character in subsequent games.

Players will first need to play through the 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc Grand Prix cups. Once the 200cc race is unlocked, they will then need to get first place in every cup there as well. Once that is achieved, they will be able to unlock Gold Mario, which will also replace Metal Mario on the character select screen.

Do not expect Gold Mario to have good stats though. According to Nintendo Insider, Gold Mario is simply a skin swap of Metal Mario, and it also carries over the stats of the latter, as well as the same sounds and special effects.

The Gold Standard Body will be unlocked by getting a star in all the Grand Prix cups in all engine classes. Meanwhile, the Gold Tires can be unlocked by defeating all 48 staff ghosts during the 150cc timed trials. Collecting 10,000 coins will allow the players to get the Gold Glider.

"Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" includes new characters in its lineup: King Boo, Dry Bones, Bowser Jr., and the Inklings have been brought in the game. All of these will be available from the beginning of the game.

Aside from Gold Mario, players can also unlock Karts and parts. Specifically, they can get 18 more bodies, 17 more sets of wheels, and 10 additional gliders. These can be unlocked by collecting in-game coins. One will unlock every time players get 50 coins until they reach 1,000 coins. At that point, the remaining items will unlock for every 100 coins.

"Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" is playable on the Nintendo Switch. It was originally released for the Wii U.
