Warner Bros. unveiled a new title and logo for the "Man of Steel" sequel Wednesday.
The film, set for a May 2016 release, is called "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice," and the logo is a large, black bat inset with Superman's iconic "S."
"Man of Steel" actor Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman in the upcoming film, and Ben Affleck will play Batman.
Diane Lane will return as Clark Kent's Earth mother, Martha, and Laurence Fishburne will return as Daily Planet Editor-in-Chief Perry White. Amy Adams will also reprise her role as Lois lane.
"Fast & Furious" actress Gal Gadot has been tapped to play Wonder Woman, and "The Social Network" star Jesse Eisenberg will play Lex Luther. Bruce Wayne's butler, Alfred, will be played by Jeremy Irons.
"Batman vs. Superman" was adapted by a David S. Goyer screenplay, and written by Chris Terrio. The movie will be produced by Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder, and executive produced by Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Wesley Coller, David S. Goyer and Geoff Johns.
Principal photography for the highly anticipated film began yesterday in Detroit, and the film will be shot around Illinois, in Africa, and in the South Pacific.
A third film, "Justice League," is expected to follow "Batman vs. Superman."
Last week, director Zack Snyder leaked two photos in two days from the upcoming project.
He tweeted a photo of the back of the Batmobile, partially obscured by a tarp, on May 12. "Could be time to pull the tarp...Tomorrow?" he wrote in the caption.
On May 13, Snyder tweeted a photo of actor Ben Affleck in his full Batman costume, standing next to the Batmobile.
Affleck is unrecognizable in the picture, wearing the Bat's signature cowl, cape, and chiseled suit. Snyder's picture shows Batman cloaked completely in black, including his utility belt, and does not appear to be wearing the scalloped gloves seen in the last Batman film, "The Dark Knight Rises."
The vehicle has also undergone a redesign, appearing sleeker than the "Tumbler" used in 2012 release.
