Episode 20 of season 3 of "Madam Secretary" is the second episode that will air after the show's hiatus, and it seems that the cast and crew are set to return with a vengeance.

The episode will see policy advisor Jay Whitman (Sebastian Arcelus) kidnapped while in Nice, France, forcing Dr. Elizabeth Adams McCord (Téa Leoni) and her team to try to save him. The kidnapping came at a critical point, as Elizabeth is also in the process of investigating who is behind the arms smuggling case, which also implicates the CIA. In an attempt to shield his wife from his work, he hides the case from Elizabeth, which may bring consequences later on.

The episode, titled "Extraordinary Hazard," will also see Dr. Henry McCord (Tim Daly), Elizabeth's husband, continuing his investigation on the doomsday cult, despite him being told in episode 19 by the FBI to leave the case alone. He suspects the group is behind a conspiracy to lead an attack against Israel via a biological weapon. The cult may very well be one of the main villains of season 3, as rumors are going around that the story arc involving them will run for at least a few more episodes.

Despite his parents' pressing issues, Jason McCord (Evan Roe), the son of Elizabeth and Henry, does not seem to be affected by this. In fact, this episode will see him tricking his parents into giving him money, which he uses to buy an expensive calculator so that he can impress a girl he likes. This story angle is interesting, given the intensity of the two other storylines that will be tackled in the episode. Nonetheless, "Madam Secretary" has its way of tackling seemingly trivial stories alongside serious ones, as described by CarterMatt.

Episode 20 of season 3 of "Madam Secretary" will air on April 30, Sunday, at 9 p.m. EDT on CBS. The episode was written by Mark Steilen, and it was directed by Charlotte Brandstrom.
