According to Forbes, Apple needs to refresh its MacBooks lineup if it wants to catch up in the competition. Other tech manufacturers like Dell and HP already have flagship iterations running on the newest Skylake architecture. Apple, on the other hand, still has the previous Broadwell architecture featured in the company's current MacBook lineups.

However, it seems that Apple is intending to change all this, and soon. While the Cupertino-based company has yet to release details on how it plans to release the new MacBooks, speculations say that Apple will be releasing the new lineup, starting with the MacBook Air 2016, in the second quarter of the year. Apple has a scheduled stand-alone event happening toward the end of this month, and while a product launch is not yet confirmed, the company may well surprise its fans by unveiling a new laptop.

Parent Herald surmises that after a MacBook Air release in March, it will be followed by a new MacBook Pro unveiling in June, possibly at Apple's annual WWDC event.

Outside the new architecture, fans are also waiting for the new MacBooks since it is speculated that Apple pulled out all the stops in reinventing the entire lineup. Aside from using a sixth-gen Intel processor to run the new laptops, the upcoming MacBooks are also said to feature huge changes and improvements in design and feature.

According to Breathe Cast, Apple will be implementing USB Type-C connectivity in all the lineups, which will make the new MacBooks sleeker and sport a slimmer profile than the previous generations. In addition, it is also said that Apple will be overhauling the power management features of the new products, giving the battery more hours on a single charge.
