D'Angelo Russell was originally seen as the next great point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers had he been used properly. To date, nothing close to that has happened.
Russell has shown he has the guts to take over, well too much. This is one reason singled out as to why he has been benched at crunch time mainly because he somehow goes wild.
But being a rookie, such is understandable. Russell finds himself in a high profile team that needs to render results. Without guidance, however, that may never happen.
Byron Scott prefers to use his disciplinary style to train Russell, although it hasn't really worked. In fact, his style has not shown any signs of promise on any Laker player which makes one wonder why the team have continued to take his side.
Without playing time, Russell will not learn the ropes. He will not develop and show off his caliber by sitting on the bench which brings in rumors of the rookie possibly headed to another team soon.
If this is the case, the Lakers may have wasted their privilege at the 2015 NBA Draft. They may have been better off picking Kristaps Porzingis or Jahlil Okafor and maybe come out with a better performance.
There will be teams interested in Russell, particularly the ones in need of a point guard. The New York Knicks and the Utah Jazz are in search of a point guard so Russell could be an option.
But, of course, the Lakers will first see whom they will be getting. The Knicks hardly have someone they can offer that would be of interest to Los Angeles, while the Jazz have a lot of young players on their fold.
But before going that far, would trading away the Lakers' supposed future be a wise one?
Russell is unlikely to flourish with Scott around. Perhaps dismissing Scott would be a better option than trading away a promising rookie?
