Looking for a spouse: What a Godly husband is like

Every single Christian woman who desires to have a Godly husband knows that this is something only God can give. Of course, God is good and wants all of His daughters to partner with someone who will love them the way He wants to, but the question is this: what's a Godly husband like?

Many can try to give descriptions of what characteristics that man should have. Some might say "gentlemanly," while some might say "Christ-like." Of course, it's more of the latter.

Are you a single woman praying for the right partner in life? Or are you a man hoping to receive guidance in what character you should develop to be a Godly husband? Here are some characteristics of a Godly husband, according to the Bible:

1) A Godly husband imitates Christ

A Godly husband knows first and foremost that his role model in being the best husband that he can be is the Lord Jesus Himself. Paul told Ephesian husbands, "love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her" (Eph. 5:25).

Of course, no man is perfect, but such men will do their best to let go of themselves so that they could love their wives. Men who work hard to imitate Christ can be simply characterized as those who do their best to be God-fearing, pure and blameless in all their dealings, especially with women, both in private and in public.

2) Godly husbands are considerate of their wives

Some men just love to pursue their careers and their hobbies. Godly husbands also work hard at their careers and enjoy their hobbies, but they would always put the needs of their wives before their own. Such husbands follow Peter's admonition in 1 Peter 3:7, where he said, "[h]usbands ... be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers."

Godly husbands do not look down on their wives for being "the weaker partner." Rather, they would consider that and be more gentle and kind to their wives! Such husbands love their wives and are not harsh towards them (see Colossians 3:19).

3) Godly husbands partner with their wives in God's kingdom

Do you see a man graciously partner with his wife in bringing God's kingdom to earth without any sign of insecurity or competition whatsoever? Godly husbands know that their primary partner in working for the Lord is none other than his wife! (see Genesis 2)

Godly husbands are open to their wives for accountability before the Lord. He knows that she is instrumental in helping him serve the Lord and in living a humble and blameless life, and is grateful to the Lord for her.
