Lolo Jones looks to God following shoulder surgery announcement: 'Lord, I want your best'

Olympian Lolo Jones shared an inspirational message following her announcement that she requires shoulder surgery.

Jones is choosing to have surgery for a torn frontal labrum, but is remaining optimistic.

"Lord, I want your best," she tweeted early Wednesday. "Help me to be unwavering until then. May there be no distractions or confusion with other options."

The 32-year-old found out that she needed surgery on Monday, and shared a photo on her social media accounts documenting the news.

"That moment when you find out you need surgery," she wrote. "Ok but I'm keeping the patient gown for Halloween. #tornLabrum."

Jones revealed that the decision to have an operation was not an easy one.

"I really don't want surgery I went back and forth and debated PRP treatment instead but I can't risk not making it back fully healthy in time for outdoor track season," she said on Facebook.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy involves injecting a patient with their own platelets at the site of damaged tendons or cartilage. The treatment relieves pain and stimulates the healing process in some patients, according to Emory Healthcare. Top athletes such as Tiger Woods and Hines Ward have undergone PRP Therapy.

Depending on the type of tear, surgery to the labrum – a type of cartilage found in the shoulder – can involve trimming or reattaching the cartilage. Surgical repair usually requires eight to 12 weeks recovery time.

Jones appeared on this season's "Dancing with the Stars," but was eliminated at the end of the first week. It is unclear when her shoulder injury occurred.

The USA Track & Field season begins in January, but Jones will have more time to prepare for the Olympic Team Trials, held in summer 2016. The top three athletes in the trials will represent the country in Rio De Janeiro.
