Lily Collins joins Zac Efron in serial killer Ted Bundy biopic 'Extremely Wicked'

More star power has been added to the upcoming Ted Bundy biopic. Lily Collins is set to star alongside Zac Efron, playing the role of Ted Bundy's former lady love in the thriller flick "Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile."

The film will focus on the perspective of Collins' character, Elizabeth Kloepfer, during the time that Bundy (Efron) committed his murder spree.

Bundy was sentenced to die and executed in 1989. Before his sentence was carried out, he confessed to killing 30 people in seven states between the years 1974 and 1978.

The Bundy biopic is set to be directed by Joe Berlinger and the screenplay will be written by Michael Werwie, who won the Nicholl Fellowship first prize and was featured on the Black List.

"Lily has very quickly distinguished herself as a major talent in a number of diverse roles in recent years," Berlinger said.

The director added that he is excited about the inclusion of Efron and Collins as they take their characters to some dark but very real places that they may not have yet explored.

Collins recently appeared in films "To the Bone" and "Okja," and was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress for her starring role in "Rules Don't Apply." She is also set to appear in the film "Tolkien," directed by Dome Karukoski, playing the role of Edith Bratt.

Efron came aboard the project during the Cannes Film Festival in May. The actor was recently seen in the movie "Baywatch," and is set to appear in the upcoming film "The Disaster Artist" with James Franco.

Voltage Pictures and Cota Entertainment will produce the film along with Michael Simkin and Jason Barrett of Efron's production company Ninjas Runnin Wild.

Production of "Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile" is set to start on Jan. 10, 2018.
