With the unveiling date for the LG G5 getting closer, details are gradually appearing online. The most recent leak places the upcoming LG flagship to be featuring a true always-on display.

In an exclusive from Android Authority, it is revealed that the rumors of LG building the G5 from the ground up are true. Reportedly, instead of the previous Glance View feature of the LG G4 and other LG smartphone flagships like the G Flex 2, the upcoming LG G5 will incorporate a true always-on display. With the Glance View, previous LG smartphone displays powered down after some time, even with a screensaver option turned on.

According to the industry follower though, LG's new always-on feature will be LG's answer to fans who were speculating about a dual-screen option for the G5. Previously, rumors pointed out that LG might be thinking of incorporating a second display for its upcoming flagship, much like what it did with another iteration, the LG V10. The always-on display of the G5 will work like the custom ticker display of the V10, with full customization options.

However, this puts into question the standby and usage life of the device, which leads many to think that LG may also be incorporating a higher-capacity battery in order to compensate for the new display feature.

The LG G5 is slated to appear later this month. However, supposed specs like a Snapdragon 820 processor and at least 4 GB of RAM, as well as a dual-cam setup, have already floated online this early.

Reportedly, LG is planning to unveil its newest flagship iteration on Feb. 21, a day ahead of this year's Mobile World Congress. This schedule puts LG in direct competition with another South Korea-based tech giant, Samsung. Allegedly, Samsung is also planning a Feb. 21 unveiling of their upcoming flagship lineup, the Galaxy S7.
