Lenovo Moto M release date, specs: New Moto M packs in Helio P15 processor, 4 GB RAM

Lenovo has just made the new Moto M official, and the new iteration is already scheduled for sale in China.

In the newly-launched page on the Lenovo Mobile online store, it is revealed that the new iteration is a combination of entry-level specs and mid-range features. The new Moto M handset runs on an octa-core MediaTek Helio P15 processor, paired with 4 GB of RAM. There is also 32 GB of onboard storage. Meanwhile, although the Moto M may be lined up as an entry-level device, there are also mid-range and above-average features on the handset. The new Lenovo Moto features a 3,050 mAh battery, which is significantly larger than the power pack in the brand's flagship, the Moto Z and Moto Z Play.

In addition, the Moto M also includes an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor at the back, and the thin design and body profile is due to a switch to USB Type-C.

Other specs and features for the newly-launched device include a 5.5-inch display with HD resolution and 2.5D curved glass; 16-MP main camera and 8-MP selfie shooter; and nano-coating that makes the new device water-resistant, although it is still short of flagship ratings like IP6X certification.

Meanwhile, with the new handset becoming official, a surprising feature has also been revealed. Even as a late 2016 release, the Lenovo Moto M was launched with only Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 onboard. Previous rumors on the device point out that the new Moto is likely to be featured with Android Nougat 7.0. However, since the device is a new release, it is expected that the Moto M will eventually be updated to the newest Android platform.

The new phone is already up on Lenovo's mobile store with a ¥1,999 price tag, or around $250. The Lenovo Moto M will go on sale on Nov. 11.

According to Android Police, the new Moto M is clearly designed as a China-only exclusive. However, with most tech makers (like Samsung with its Galaxy A) eventually launching region-exclusive devices globally, it is expected that the Lenovo Moto M will also make it to a worldwide release.
