Speculations suggest that Valve will be showcasing a new "Left 4 Dead" sequel with a 2017 release. Reportedly, the game has been in development for at least a year.

According to Yibada, although Valve has yet to confirm it, it is likely that details of "Left 4 Dead 3" will be showcased at this year's E3, which is currently ongoing. Reportedly, the sequel will get a 2017 release, so an E3 presence is highly plausible. Its release next year may not be that far off the mark. Fans have been waiting for a sequel for "Left 4 Dead 2" since its release in 2009.

Meanwhile, iDigitalTimes says that based on leaks, "Left 4 Dead 3" is already in development for at least a year. Given that the development team already has some materials they can work with from the previous two titles, fans may see the new sequel soon. In addition, there are already reports that the prelim work is already finished, with the basic gameplay already done. Allegedly, "Left 4 Dead 3" will feature at least six separate campaigns like "No Mercy," "Cliff-Hanger," "Early Destination," "Crashland," "Impasse," and "Inquisitor Land."

Original developer Turtle Rock Studios will be handing over the reins to someone else this time.

Studio founder Phil Robb has been quoted assaying, "I think we're pretty much done with it. It's Valve's thing now. We've kind of gone off in our own direction. So I'd kinda like to see something new being done with it, and Valve always does great stuff, but it'd be cool to go back to it as just a fan and not a developer. But I doubt you'll see anything from us."

Aside from "Left 4 Dead 3," fans are also waiting for another much-rumored sequel, "Half Life 3."
