Knitting Designers to Raise Funds for Feed The Children UK

An increasing need for funds to pay for shipping consignments to Africa and other Third World countries has triggered professional knitting designers to contribute to charity Feed The Children UK.

The designers, Heather Cawte and Mary-Louise Quick, have donated unique patterns to the charity for their new knitting pattern book Best Yarn Forward.

The profits from all sales of the book will directly benefit Feed The Children's overseas and UK programmes.

Feed The Children's chief executive officer, Brian Main, says: "Knitting is often regarded as a relaxing and therapeutic pastime, but in our case it can also save lives.

"Whether you knit for your family or for Feed The Children there is bound to be something in the new pattern book that catches your eye and it would be wonderful if at the same time we raised money to help our special children around the world."

Feed The Children UK believes that wherever in the world there is famine, conflict, disease or poverty, it is always the children who are most vulnerable. The charity concentrates aid on children suffering the effects of poverty, especially those who have been orphaned or abandoned.

The charity works worldwide to develop sustainable communities and provide food and other necessities for those in great need.

Even in the continent of Africa, children need knitted clothing and warm blankets. The temperature can drop at night by several degrees and a small under-nourished child is particularly at risk from the potentially fatal effects of hypothermia.
