Kirk Franklin says both black and white churches have failed America

Gospel singer Kirk Franklin is not afraid to air his views about racial diversity and issues surrounding the church, and this is why the "Losing My Religion" singer did not mince words in saying both the white and black churches are at fault in failing the American culture.

"We have to confess as a Church where we have failed the culture, [because] we have failed the culture," Franklin tells The Christian Post. "We have to confess — white churches and black churches have to confess that we left a space and the world filled it with its own narrative. It's created it's own narrative because we were absent."

As an example, Franklin cites abortion. Even though white churches are "very compassionate about abortion, black children felt like that same passion wasn't there for them after they were born" because they are constantly facing discrimination.

Because of these injustices, Franklin says the church looks like a "disfigured figure." The church lacks credibility when it is divided.

The singer hopes people can resolve their differences and unite for God. "I believe it will start with confession," says Franklin.

The only way the church's damage can be repaired, according to Franklin, is if white Christian leaders join hands with black Christian leaders, confess their sins to one another, and set aside their differences.

"I believe that gives God freedom — when we confess and it opens up the opportunity to regain credibility with un-Christian media, culture and people who have seen us not get it right," says Franklin.

Franklin was one of the many Christian personalities who graced the Together 2016 event last Saturday at the National Mall in Washington. Other speakers of the event were Francis Chan, Louie Giglio, Ravi Zacharias, Mark Batterson, Michael W. Smith, Tim Tebow, Casting Crowns, Lauren Daigle, Lecrae, Andy Mineo, Tedashii, KP and Trip Lee among many others.
