Speculations suggest that the sequel to the "Jurassic World" film may center on weaponized dinosaurs and may even be set outside of the theme park.

According to Gamenguide, the official synopsis for "Jurassic World 2" is not yet known, although teasers for the sequel may be gleaned from the first film. In the original "Jurassic World," it is hinted that some defense contractors are interested in the dinosaurs like Velociraptors being used as weapons of war. This has been the main idea for main protagonist Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) being in the theme park, to observe how dinosaurs can be weaponized. The original film also underscores how the technology may survive even with the disaster in the "Jurassic World" theme park, as some incubated eggs together with the chief researcher made it out safely.

Meanwhile, it is also hinted that aside from weaponized dinosaurs, "Jurassic World 2" will feature a different environment, with teasers that the sequel will take place outside of the theme park. Previously, writer Colin Trevorrow has been quoted as saying, "Owen is going to be in it, Claire is in it and neither is going to be in the same place we left them in the first movie."

This hint from the franchise writer also confirms that Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are set to reprise their roles in the sequel.

Although the next franchise installment is set to release in 2018, main production is revealed to start only next year. However, it is confirmed that "Jurassic World 2" is already in pre-production.

In an interview with Collider, producer Frank Marshall stated, "We're in pre-production. In fact I just got back from London meeting with Juan Antonio and the production designer, we're designing, he's doing storyboards. We're in full-boar pre-production to start shooting sometime early next Spring."

"Jurassic World 2" is set to release on June 22, 2018. Reportedly, it will be tagged as "Jurassic World: Ancient Futures."
