Joyce Meyer Shares Tips on How to Have a Peaceful Christmas Season

Christmas is indeed the most wonderful time of the year because it's a season for celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, some people get so caught up with the holiday rush that they fail to enjoy the festivities and lose their sense of peace.

Charismatic Christian speaker and author Joyce Meyer says people live in a society where being too busy is applauded. "And so it's very easy to get wrapped up in the buying and the planning and the 'business' of Christmas. Ironically, when the day finally arrives, we're unable to enjoy it!" she says in an article on her website.

Meyer says people should learn how to slow down, keep quiet, and really take the time to soak in God's presence. True, problems will come and people will frustrate or disappoint you. But Meyer says there's no sense getting upset over something people cannot avoid. What people can learn to do is have a better reaction to these situations.

"You can balance out the bad with the good by spending quality time with God and indulging in a few of the simpler pleasures of the season," she says. "If you find yourself struggling with too much intensity, try a few of these simple 'recipes' for a less stressful, more fulfilling celebration."

Meyer suggests people take a deep breath and read something uplifting. Even Proverbs 4:20-22 says so: "Turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one's whole body."

It's also good to listen to praise and worship songs, because it will make people feel joyful. And as difficult as this might be, Meyer says it's healthy to go to bed on time.

Whenever people have spare time, they should spend it with a good friend, enjoy the outdoors, and prepare a delicious, nutricious meal. Should problems still persist, Meyer says people should write down all their worries then throw it away. At the same time, it's good to make a list of everything people are thankful for.
