Jill Duggar, Derick Dillard taking birth classes together: 'As a husband you don't want to feel helpless'

Jill Duggar visits hubby Derick Dillard in his workplace.

Derick Dillard is doing everything he can to be a supportive husband to Jill Duggar throughout her pregnancy and that includes the labour.

The 19 Kids and Counting stars are getting ready to welcome their first child together, a little baby boy, into the world in March.

Speaking to Today.com, the couple said they are doing Bradley birth classes together. The Bradley method is based on the idea of having as natural a birth as possible and emphasises the training of the fathers to be labour 'coaches'.

"As a husband you don't want to feel helpless. It really gives you that avenue to help, what can I do not just for the labour but throughout pregnancy," said Derick of the classes.

"I'm just trying to be as supportive as I can."

That support was practical during the first trimester when Jill struggled with morning sickness, and he helped her get through it by giving her frozen fudge pops when she couldn't stomach the smell of hot food.

Jill's revealed in the past that he was helpful in making her mint tea and that she had a real thing for cold food.

The interview also revealed that Derick carried around a bag of different kinds of snacks just in case a sudden craving came on.

They also revealed they have been praying over their son ever since they found out they were expecting and one of their favourite verses is Psalm 22: 30-31: "A seed shall serve Him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.

They shall come and shall declare His righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that He hath done this."

Reflecting on their first pregnancy, Derick said: "It's humbling, being responsible for another person."

Jill praised her husband, saying she hoped their son would grow up to be like him, a "man of character".

"Derick is like a gentle giant", she said. "He's strong in character but gentle and sensitive to the feelings of others."

Derick also raved about his new wife saying that he loved how "tender-hearted" she is.

"Really being a people person – her love of the Lord and because of that, her love for people," he said.
