Speculations suggest that although microSD support still won't be a feature of the next flagship, Apple will introduce a massive 256GB storage option for the upcoming iPhone 7.

According to CNET, analysts are saying that since the current-gen iPhone 6s and 6s Plus offer a 128GB version, the Cupertino-based company may be thinking of upping the ante and introducing a 256GB iteration for its iPhone 7 lineup. In addition, it is said that Apple is also expected to discontinue the 16GB option for its upcoming iPhones.

The industry follower also mentioned that with the growing focus on performance and speed, Apple is also expected to upgrade its RAM for the next iPhone and go as high as putting a 3GB RAM on the iPhone 7.

Although Apple has not yet confirmed what changes it will bring with the iPhone 7, analysts predict that the Cupertino-based tech conglomerate needs to innovate. It is said that for the first time in years, iPhone sales dipped to the 51.2-million mark in the second quarter of 2016. While this is still an impressive figure, it is the lowest unit sales for iPhones in recent years. In addition, tweaks and improvements are a must for Apple's new flagship as the new iPhone 7 will continue to do battle against an onslaught of Android-run flagships from major competitors.

Other purported changes to the iPhone 7 include a sleeker and slimmer design as the new iPhone will reportedly abandon the 3.5mm audio port, a minimum storage of 32GB and a new A10 chipset. Meanwhile, although Apple has not yet provided details on the next launch, it is expected that the iPhone 7 will be unveiled later in the year, as Apple has traditionally released a new flagship by September or October.
